Dear St. John’s parents,
This week we’re back to business as usual and busily preparing for Lent and Easter!
We hope you can join us next week on Mar. 5 for one of our Ash Wednesday services at noon or 7:30 p.m. to mark the first day of Lent.
But, before we begin the season of Lent, please join us for our annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper!
In this season of Lent, we will spend the coming weeks learning about the days leading up to Jesus’ death and resurrection. It is a time of prayer, serving others, and drawing closer to God. One of God’s greatest promises explains what happens when you spend time with Him: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8).
In the coming weeks, I will be sharing resources for ways to live into your faith at home along with some easy family practices to adopt.
The Baptism of Christ, by Guido Reni, circa 1622.
This week, in the Godly Play classrooms, we begin to introduce the relationship of Lent to the Mystery of Easter as well as how Easter overflows into the season of Easter.
In the Upper Elementary classroom, we are covering the Baptism of Jesus. It is after his Baptism that Jesus goes into the wilderness and begins his 40 day journey in the desert—this journey is what we remember in Lent.
I look forward to entering into this season of prayer and preparation for the joy of Resurrection and heart of our faith.
Warm regards,
Alexis
