Each year, St. John’s helps host the B-Safe program by preparing and serving lunches to campers at St. Stephen’s and hosting the kids for field trips, a nutritious lunch and fun at St. John’s in Hingham.
The B-SAFE Program (The Bishop’s Summer Academic & Enrichment Program) is a five-week, full-day academic and enrichment program serving young people from first grade through high school. The goal of the program is to build a community where all people feel safe, feel big, and feel connected. We run ten programs in six Boston area neighborhoods. Each site will include academic programs in reading, writing and math; visual and performing art workshops; science activities; recreational activities; and many field trips.
******2020 COVID CHANGES****
St. John’s 21st year supporting BSAFE will continue this summer but in a new manner due to Covid-19. This summer, St. John’s will support St. Stephen’s in the following ways:
1. Wednesday 7/15 + Thursday 7/16: Using your donations, St. John’s will purchase and deliver 65 individually packaged lunches (purchased from Black-owned Boston restaurants) (full lists: here and here)
2. Friday, July 17, 2020: St. John’s parishioners will donate items to fill 50 Grocery Bags for B-SAFE families through B-LOVE Fridays.
3. ONGOING: Donate here to support the above initiatives as well as to purchase grocery store gift cards and elementary and middle school learning materials.
