Food Donations : How to Help Now
St. John’s collects food for the Hingham Interfaith Food Pantry, Wellspring and Weymouth Food Pantry. In order for our efforts to have the greatest impact, every few months, we focus on a specific collection initiative with one of these partner pantries.
Starting October 1, 2020, we are collecting these items for the Weymouth Food Pantry’s Backpack program. This program, started by the teachers in Weymouth, provides nutritious, easy to prepare meals to 300+ students at all 5 elementary schools and the middle school when they can’t depend on school meals to avoid hunger. Weymouth is fully remote until November, and the teachers have partnered with the pantry to do weekly distributions out of one of the schools. The teachers have also taken on the burden of delivering the food to some of the homes of children where parents just don't have access to transportation. Although the schools are working hard to make school lunches available in our the community, with the kids being at home and fully remote there is a real concern about how children will access the food and services they need.
Click below for the list of most needed items, and specific to fit the dietary needs of the program. There are three ways you can contribute:
